James McCall Quote
“Oil is the lifeblood of an engine and performs many functions apart from lubricating internal moving parts. It is critical to use the correct oil. Exacerbating the problem is the lack of industry or government checks to ensure quality.
The Motor Traders’ Association uses the American Petroleum Institute standard, which has a stringent certification program for engine oil, essentially a world standard recognised by manufacturers around the world. Australia has no independent API – like certification system in place so it is left up to oil companies to be honest when labeling their products.
Certification gives consumers and vehicle manufacturers an assurance that what is on the label is in the bottle and the right specification for your engine. Some of the biggest oil brands sold in Australia self test and do not want to submit to independent testing and certification. The MTA wants to educate consumers and service centre proprietors about the importance of following manufacturer specifications and asking for officially certified oils as part of the regular service process. The warranty could depend on it.
The Motor Traders’ Association uses and recommends Certified Oil, United Oil. Ask for it by name”.
