News Release:
Craig Banks impresses at first full Parramatta sprintcar shootout.
Last Saturday night Craig Banks tasted his first full Parramatta sprintcar meeting and he certainly impressed many with his smooth driving style.
While Craig isn’t a stranger to the Parramatta clay after spending years as a sprintcar team crew chief, this was his first full night behind the wheel of his own 800 plus horsepower winged sprintcar.
For the past three or so years Craig has been competing in the speedway karting ranks and has been ultra fast picking up many impressive wins. Last summer, Craig was fortunate to race a sprintcar at the Victorian Bacchus Marsh track but now he’s set up his own team racing the #89 J&J sprintcar.
Last Saturday night, the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway had over 45 of the best sprintcar racers in the state and Craig certainly showed that his machine had speed with a superb 13.589 second lap time, he qualified 37 th in time trails. He continued his impressive rookie form picking up a 5th place in heat one and 12 th in heat six. That qualified him straight into the B Main with Craig powering up three positions to greet the checker in 13 th.
“It’s great racing a sprintcar. It took a while but once I settled into the car I was pretty comfortable. I pedaled a little harder, kept going and really enjoyed the night.”
While Craig has a limited budget we can expect to see Craig’s #89 J&J sprinter at the regular Parramatta sprintcar meetings, trying “to keep it straight” and gaining more experience at Australia’s Home of sprintcar racing.
